Migration Station is a powerful, GUI‑driven content migration platform designed to move data between leading content management systems or to export content at scale. The solution provides full control over repository definitions and visual data‑type mapping, following a true ETL (extract–transform–load) workflow similar to enterprise‑grade database migration tools.

To streamline planning and reduce risk, Migration Station includes built‑in analytics to evaluate metadata usage, field types, field lengths, and nullability. This ensures clean, consistent, and predictable content structures before any migration begins.

Transformations are executed using in‑memory key‑value pair files, allowing users to define maximum lengths, regular expressions, and allowed characters—or even call custom stored procedures for advanced lookup logic. The visual mapping interface supports systems with mismatched data types, naming conventions, or cardinality, making it easy to set default values and precisely control how content moves from source to destination.

As a high‑speed, client‑server migration solution, Migration Station delivers exceptional scalability. In real-world use, it has processed up to 6 million FileNet documents per day on a single server. Its asynchronous, parallel processing engine automatically chunks workloads for optimal throughput, while an MS SQL–based utility database provides durable logging, auditing, and migration persistence.

Engineered for enterprise content platforms, Migration Station is an ideal solution for content management migrations for any organization requiring fast, controlled, and highly configurable content movement.

Features and Competitive Advantages

High‑speed data migration is at the core of Migration Station, enabling you to export millions of documents per day with ease. Our advanced FileNet migration engine uses parallel and asynchronous processing, allowing export, conversion, and import operations to run simultaneously for maximum throughput.

Built‑in monitoring and reporting keep your migration fully observable, with automated shutdown alerts, progress updates, exception reports, and trend analytics. Server‑based migrations can run 24/7 in the background or follow a scheduled window, ensuring minimal disruption to your business.

The intuitive GUI requires no coding, making it simple to migrate content between similar or completely different content management systems, including SharePoint. File conversions are fully supported, with options for embedded PDF creation, OCR, TIFF page merging, and conversion of proprietary formats into widely accessible standards.

Migration Station also provides deep analytics to help you understand your taxonomies and refine destination metadata models. Security reports display LDAP groups and access rights across document classes, helping you validate and correct permission structures before final migration.

Data remediation is efficient and flexible—you can retry a single document, a batch, or an entire job. Many customers also choose export‑only modes to disk or file share locations, which the platform supports out of the box. Delta and live migrations are seamless, and all documents are tracked from start to finish for clear auditing and traceability.

Our ETL‑style transformation layer gives you granular, property‑level control inside each job: define pass‑through behavior, add defaults, restrict characters, apply regex rules, perform lookup operations, trim whitespace, or bulk‑map properties for reuse. Custom batch sizes ensure that throughput and resource consumption match your infrastructure capacity.

Simplified Export Target Options

In addition to its GUI-based migrations, Migration Station offers robust data migration software that simplifies exports to disk, network drives, weekly folders, or BLOB storage. This includes FileNet migration capabilities, allowing for seamless transitions between content management systems. All exports come with complete metadata, and the output is available in JSON, XML, and CSV formats, making it easily readable by any programming language or third party. The metadata files detail the relative path to the exported content and encompass all relevant metadata, ensuring thorough documentation.

FileNet Migration Capabilities

You can easily migrate data between FileNet systems or to other repository types using advanced data migration software. FileNet supports multiple storage mediums, and the Migration Station software leverages the FileNet API with optimized API requests. Even if data is encrypted in storage, whether in the cloud, SAN, or NAS, the API will efficiently retrieve the data. Some customers may encounter unmatched security IDs or may not have access to content, which will be recorded by the migration software, allowing an administrator to address these issues using FileNet administrative tools.

FileNet P8 systems typically contain multiple object stores (databases), with documents organized within defined classes. Properties are associated with these classes for metadata, and the content property is a nullable list. FileNet systems do not impose naming or folder restrictions; additionally, documents can be checked out and may contain no content or proprietary file formats when used with ICC products. Records in FileNet, if enabled, function as a database that defines records for document databases, akin to a super data-database.

Migration Station Features for FileNet Systems include:

* Preserve system fields such as source ID, version ID, creator, and last modifier.

* The freeze function allows the user to freeze documents, preventing any metadata changes and the creation of new instances.

* An object store and document class report identifies all classes, properties, property types, choice lists, and metadata field constraints, along with property usability that indicates the percentage of population compared to the total body of documents.

* It can handle multiple content elements and reference content types (pointers).

* Update embedded document URLs.

* Mirror folder paths and filing.

* Mirror records file plan and records declaration of documents.

* Export to Batch-it format, enhancing your FileNet migration capabilities and ensuring a seamless transition to SharePoint migration services.

Capabilities for SharePoint

Migration Station enables you to easily register multiple SharePoint online libraries using advanced data migration software. For each library, you can map the metadata to target fields and add a migration status field. Each defined job will recursively search the library, queuing the documents identified for migration. This migration software batches the IDs into the migration database and updates the status of the SharePoint documents as 'queued'. As further migration processing occurs, SharePoint is updated with the status indicating that it is complete.

When defining SharePoint as a target, documents must be uniquely named, and typically, the file name will become the document's title. Since other systems may not have the same constraints, migrations into SharePoint require implementing these small but important changes, which are incorporated into the migration software.

Features:

* Tag documents when you want to export.

* Imported documents are uniquely titled and named, ensuring compliance with SharePoint migration services.

* Recursive processing for an entire library or N folders deep, enhancing FileNet migration capabilities.

* Job scheduling allows you to control the frequency of polling.

Capabilities for Hyland OnBase

Hyland OnBase systems consist of item groups, item types, and keywords, which play a crucial role in effective data migration software. These systems can store compressed text data and may involve a mix of multi-page documents that require merging into a single document. Additionally, OnBase systems offer primary, secondary, and other redundant storage options. Some customers may have thousands of item types; to streamline the migration process, BECM implemented a bulk map feature that automatically maps fields between systems with the same names or through a key-value pair text file. This is particularly useful for organizations utilizing FileNet migration capabilities or SharePoint migration services.

Migration Station Features:

* Conversion of COLD documents.

* Merging and conversion of source files.

* Very high speed and performance, easily migrating millions of files per day.

* Reconcile the repository before migration.

* Taxonomy report shows groups, item types, keywords, number of documents, and percentage of population of use for each keyword type.

* Unity form conversion to flatten and recreate the forms in OnBase into simplified PDFs.

* Workflow data extraction, audit logs, and approval history export.

* Recreate note data as annotation in destination system(s).

* Replacement GUI for OnBase for data retrieval and viewing for 'as-is' use.

Capabilities for OpenText Content Server

OpenText Content Server stands out from other ECM systems, as its metadata is defined through categories and attributes. Unlike FileNet migration capabilities, a document can have zero, one, or many categories defined without a system-wide constraint enforcing implementation. Typically, categories are applied at folder levels, which contrasts with other platforms where guaranteed metadata consistency is ensured by its 'type' or 'class'. Security within OpenText is also folder-based and may vary. Additionally, OpenText has document name constraints regarding allowed characters and ensures unique naming for documents within the same folder. When it comes to advanced versioning, using the API can be tricky and may behave differently compared to OpenText's own object importer.

Many customers have utilized Object Importer (OI), which we support alongside APIs. However, our recommendation leans towards API usage, as exceptions from OI can lead to complications that are hard to reconcile or track. This is particularly true when migrating millions of documents and versions, where tracking just a handful of exceptions can become unwieldy.

Migration Station Features:

* Insert default user name when the original creator is not defined in OpenText.

* Merge multiple source fields to destination property, each with their own translation - cleanup tasks.

* Promote migration maps from lower environments up.

* Easily select the destination OpenText folder.

* Document title - name constraint cleanup and uniqueness.

* Accommodate simple or advanced versioning.

* Mirror OpenText environments with documents and folder structures, including versions.

* Easily select categories and attributes.

* Utilize OpenText APIs for ingestion or generate Object Importer XML files, making it an efficient choice for SharePoint migration services.
